Our Mission

The mission of Allen Services can be distilled down to three primary objectives:

To be of service to the community by providing competent repair service and quality product, primarily in the areas of refrigeration, air-conditioning, heating and building controls.

To provide a secure, stable place of employment for individuals who exhibit a willingness to learn, a cooperative spirit, and an attitude of service to others.

To provide a place of opportunity and income for current and future members of the Allen family through a commitment to  honesty in all business dealings, and adherence to fiscally sound business practices.

Our History

Allen Refrigeration Services was founded in 1974.   Company founder Jim Allen had learned the intricacies of refrigeration while in the Navy and decided  to remain in the field after discharge.   Though successfully employed by a large refrigeration firm for many years, a prolonged labor dispute in the early seventies prompted Mr. Allen to examine his alternatives.  As a result, with the support and encouragement of his father (a prominent local businessman),  Allen Refrigeration Services was created. 

A favorable reputation was quickly built, founded on skilled workmanship and quality materials, and within 10 years, Allen Refrigeration  Services had grown to 15 full time employees.  Product lines now included residential heating and air-conditioning services as well as the commercial / industrial work that had been the target market of the initial venture.

In 1986, Allen Refrigeration Services moved to spacious new quarters on Moore Rd. in Avon Lake, where the company remains to this day.   The new facilities included a large sheet metal fabrication shop, an area for in-house repair of small refrigeration equipment, a vehicle maintenance bay, plenty of warehouse storage space, and enough office area to accommodate the growth that was expected to occur over the next decade or two. 

Incorporation in 1979 made the official name of the firm Allen Refrigeration Services, Inc. , but it became increasingly evident that the term "Refrigeration" in the name was being perceived by many customers as the company's only area of expertise.  In response to this dilemma, the name Allen Heating and Cooling was chosen as the name to represent the firm in the residential marketplace.

Two of founder, Jim Allen's sons (Chris and Paul) have now joined the firm and the assistance they are providing in day to day business operations allows their father to devote more time to field service- the work he enjoys most!  As CEO, Paul is charting a course for the future that includes continued growth, employee training and recruitment plans, opening up new markets, and additional product and service offerings.  But whatever shape the future may hold, one thing is sure:  The foundation that has been built on skilled workmanship and quality products shall remain unchanged.
